Teaching Artist Statement

Within Maren’s teaching, she aims to advocate, educate, and inspire her students by creating an open and safe learning environment where they can take risks, be curious, and create their own music. Music lessons are a collaborative opportunity to share, grow, and learn.

Teaching Bio

During her time in college, Maren took piano lessons and began teaching after graduation to beginner and intermediate students. Additionally, Maren has taught viola and violin in groups large and small with Yakima Music en Acción, an El Sistema program in Yakima, WA. Currently, she is a clinician in the Lake Washington and Seattle public schools and a coach with the Cascade Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Performance Bio

Maren holds a B.M. in Viola Performance, a Nonprofit Organization Minor, and a Professional Writing Certificate from Central Washington University. Currently, she plays with the Everett Philharmonic Orchestra, Saratoga Orchestra, and the Northwest Mahler Festival. She will continue to pursue her passion and career in sharing music with others by teaching and performing.
